Elizabeth of the Trinity (Elizabeth Catez) was a French Discalced Carmelite nun born in 1880. Elizabeth was born into a wealthy and devout family, and from a young age, she felt a call to religious life. After completing her education, Elizabeth joined the Carmelite convent of Dijon in 1901. She received the name Elizabeth of the Trinity and made her final profession in 1903.
Elizabeth is known for her profound spirituality, which was shaped by the teachings of St. John of the Cross and St. Teresa of Avila. She wrote extensively about the importance of silence and prayer in deepening one's relationship with God, and she is remembered for her devotion to the Holy Trinity. Elizabeth's life was cut short by Addison's disease, and she died in 1906 at the age of 26. She was beatified by Pope John Paul II in 1984 and canonized by Pope Francis in 2016. Elizabeth's writings continue to inspire people around the world, and she is considered a patron saint of contemplative prayer.
